Light up Southland

Filed under: General News — Administrator @ 7:37 pm

Dear Southland Friends,

The Southland Association is getting ready to host our 2nd Annual Light Up Southland Days from November 25th thru January 1st. This is open to everyone in the Southland area.

Last year we had many interesting and well done displays of holiday decorations. Once again we will be having a contest with prizes for the winning 3 interiors and 3 exteriors. Combinations of interiors and exteriors will also be considered. There are two $50.00 first place prizes and four $25.00 prizes for second and third place. The prizes are Dinner Certificates good at any Southland Association member restaurant.

You won’t have to be the biggest or have the most of any particular type of decorations – just be well done, attractive and have interesting decorations in keeping with the holiday spirit.

Please take a moment to complete and return the enclosed postcard with your feedback. We look forward to your participation and help. Judging will be done on December 20th (please contact us to make sure we include your business in the judging.) Thanks and Happy Holidays !

Sincerely,

Hilary Baumann

Year 2006 review highlights

Major Southland Association accomplishments and ongoing projects:

• $33,000. Funding drive to paint the Southland Drive Norfolk Southern railroad bridge has now been completed, with a combination of LFUCG grants and Capital Funds, plus Southland Association funds from membership dues and a large donation of all the paint from Environmental Protective Coatings, with offices on Regency Rd.

• FREE selling and/or display/demo space is now available on a scheduled basis for all Southland Association members on each Sunday Farmers Market day. (about 30 days during the season) From one to four 10’ x 10’ pop-up tent type canopies are also available along with electrical hook-ups, free to Southland Association members.

• Third Thursday Networking opportunity is now available to let members and non members have a convenient and casual opportunity to meet and discuss Southland events of mutual interest. We provide snack food and drinks for those attending.

• Our new Southland Jamboree proved very popular, with an estimated 6,000 or more people attending the regular Tuesday evening Bluegrass music concerts during the season. Thanks to the generous sponsorship support we received, and the partnership with the LFUCG division of Parks and Recreation, we plan a second season next year. The community spirit expressed by comments of the fans was very gratifying.

• Southland Association Web site development is in progress. Our members have this free connection to greater Lexington – and yes – to the world! This will feature multifaceted public and private sides with special benefits for our members, such as a services directory and blog on the public side, and member-to-member business promotions, plus member-to-public promotional listing opportunities. There is much more planned as this becomes fully developed.

By working together, we are making the Southland area a safer, more attractive place
To shop, eat, do business and live.
